For the last 4 years I have built the monthly e-newsletter for the City of Rancho Cucamonga. It's a simple email newsletter and landing page combination, like many newsletters. As I recall they had a website but, it wasn't easily modified at the time, so I built this simple landing page for each article with a little PHP program that automatically organizes the articles by month and year on the homepage.
The email is built using an online service called GovDelivery (formerly Granicus). It's a decent tool. It's similar to Mail Chimp in that you can create custom templates with stylesheets. The tool injects the stylesheets inline to ensure they work on most email clients. The only thing I don't like is that sometimes the CSS doesn't translate from module to module (example: I put the text as justified in the main article paragraph and it seems to only work in some of the modules.) and also the interface can be buggy.
I found it seems to work best in Firefox.
The email and landing pages were designed by Geographics but the code is mine.
